Lisa and Sean Reico (dconstruct) are Winnipeg, Manitoba-based artists inspired by their love for, and interest in, minimalist design and modern architecture.
Together, their mission is to innovate through their use of unique elements, and to support the community at large by using eco-friendly materials such as recycled resins developed by skilled artisans in diverse regions around the world.
Although, Lisa and Sean have no formal training in fine arts, their respective decade long experience in the areas of interior design and software development has fostered their shared vision for jewellery that reflects clean lines and overall simplicity.
“All of this is something of an ongoing experiment that started when Sean made a concrete pendant for me,” says Lisa Reico. “The piece drew countless compliments and attracted the interest of a local store owner who first wanted to carry the jewellery in her shop.”
One major artistic influence for Lisa and Sean is the celebrated husband and wife team Charles and Ray Eames who worked throughout the 20th century making major contributions in disparate fields of design including industrial design, furniture design, art, graphic design, film and architecture and who were particularly known for pioneering innovative technologies, such as fiberglass, plastic resin, and mesh furniture.
Other key role models are post modern Japanese artists Hirotoshi Sawada and Tokujn Yoshoika who are each highly regarded for their for exceptional ability to create boundary-extending design filled with emotion and grace. As well, these artists are lauded for their efforts to transform everyday materials — glass, plastics, fabrics, paper, even tissues — into magical objects and spaces.
“Art seems to swirl throughout our world with Lisa’s brother being a graphic artist and my father having had a passion for coal sketching. With our shared creative drive, it only makes sense that our children are very artistic and creative as well,” says Sean Reico. “Lisa and I are so proud that our son is very musically inclined, playing multiple instruments as well as being an amazing dancer and that our daughter plays violin and is a very hands on girl producing some really amazing things with her newly owned sewing machine”.
