Christie Chaplin-Saunders is the owner/operator of “Artifacts in Clay” based in Chester, Nova Scotia - a pottery studio specializing in functional stoneware sculpture.
Here with four assistants, Christie Chaplin-Saunders creates award winning pottery designed to delight, surprise, engage and intrigue. Having worked as a self-employed production potter since 1987, she is best known for her functional sculptures of various sea life.
“As a creator, I am inspired by the natural world such as the elegant spiral of a seashell or the symmetry of a pine cone”, says Christie. “ For years now I have been profoundly intrigued by the mathematics of recurring patterns expressed in living natural forms. Given this fascination, I have chosen to sculpt and colour these very ancient creatures that continue to live along side us.”
